USA's State & Industry Economic Dashboard

An interactive exploration of industry earnings, state-level trends, and economic growth dynamics across the United States. All figures in this dashboard are based on GDP data reported by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) https://www.bea.gov/data/gdp/gdp-state

1. State-wise Earnings by Industry and Year

This visualization compares industry earnings across all U.S. states for a selected year. Using the dropdown menus inside the chart, you can filter states and years to explore how each industry contributes to the local economy.

Try selecting Mining & Oil/Gas β€” it’s nearly invisible in many states but becomes the largest sector in energy-heavy states like Texas.

Note: A zero in the dataset may represent missing or suppressed data rather than an actual value of zero.

2. Industry Earnings Comparison

This visualization takes a deeper look at industry performance within a selected state for a chosen year. It allows users to quickly identify which sectors dominate the state's economy and how earnings compare across industries.

For instance, Government is a major employer in states such as Virginia and Maryland, while Finance & Insurance plays a leading role in New York.

Note: A zero in the dataset may represent missing or suppressed data rather than an actual value of zero.

3. Year-Over-Year Growth Trends (2019–2024)

This interactive line chart highlights the growth trajectory of industries at the state level. By selecting a state and an industry, you can explore structural shifts, recovery patterns, and long-term performance.

Look at the Healthcare trend, especially during the COVID-19 period across states.

Retail Trade shows mixed performance in 2023–24, with sharp declines in states such as New York, while others, like Georgia, experienced notable growth.

Note: Due to missing values in the dataset, some trend lines or comparisons may not appear if the underlying figures were not reported.
